I agree with "the quality of life". In my case, I appreciate so much the freedom I enjoy in America--being a single woman with PhD without others' judgments, being able to choose and do things I love and had only dreamed when I was back home, being able to meet all kinds of people and share their perspectives of life... I won't have these if I were back home.
My family are all back home. Over the years, I have planted part of my roots in the U.S. I will fight for my Green Card, even though sometimes it feels like a black humor or irony.
That's the right spirit!!! I too feel more at home here than in my home country. Instead of complaining about skin color discrimination, which BTW I faced in my home country too, it is better to focus on the quality of life and personal freedoms we enjoy in the US.

This is a completely idiotic response!! When did dependants start paying taxes? We are talking about joint filers with single income. If you are the only earning member in the family, you are still eligible up to $ 600 for spouse and $ 300 for each child if your income is less than $150K. Why should a legal resident be penalized for not having an SSN?
The package is still not approved in the senate... that is another matter.

It goes back to the fairness of temporary legal residents (H1B holders) paying SS and medicare taxes. It goes back to the fairness of not being eligible for unemployment benefits when you lose your job.

Before you accuse me of coming up with an arbitrary date, I suggest you do some homework yourself and go read the draft. I have posted the content of the bill where it explicitely specifies the cut off date (date of the introduction of the bill). If you don't want to do any reading and just pass comments then go ahead and do that but that won't change what's in the bill.
Having said that and as some lawyers have pointed out, this is a bill in progress which is changing by the minute in the Senate. If there is an amendment to change the cut off date and if it passes then of course we don't have to worry about it but I haven't seen any amendment to that affect, have you? By the time it reaches president's desk, if it does, the bill may look very different but as it stands now that's the cut off date .. like it or not.
By the way, it is not up to the USCIS to decide what to enforce and what not to enforce. If it's in the law, they have to enforce it. Executive branch doesn't make law; it simply enforces law that are made by legislative branch.

I contacted Houston consulate by email and got a reply that with AP, airport transit visa is not required. I also got a call from the Houston consulate and was assured that airport transit visa is not required.
Houston consulate is consistently saying "ATV not required if you have AP" , the issues is with German consulate in Chennai, their website has "ATV REQUIRED even if you have AP", further , they confirmed as "Required" in email too.
When we board the plane in India , those officials will follow which guidelines? German consulate in USA ? Germany ? or India ?.

Me too, my recurring subscription is still very much active, I see a payment made to Immigration Voice from my Paypal account on July 1, so I assume, I shouldn't be affected by the 6/6/09 issue? I mean if I was, I would expect my Paypal transfer to get rejected, but it didn't.
Anyway, I'll wait a few days and see if this issue gets fixed on its own. If I still can't log in, I'll whine some more. :)

Mmmm... Seven years sounds a bit long to me in this modern century. How about +5 years?

Lobbying for a law or whatever that gives GC to H1B holders who are on H1B for more than 7 years is the easiest way out because this will not cause much grief - as these people are allready in USA and allready working and paying taxes for 7+ years and giving them GC will not increase the labour pool (which is the main concern for anti immigrant lobbies). Also providing GC to these people will unleash a wave of benefits to the local economy as these new GC holders will now confidently invest in the US economy.
We need somebody who is capable of carrying this message to the heart of the congress and the senators.

BAILOUT FOR HIGHLY SKILLED IMMIGRANTS
we are not asking for money, we are asking for something which is lawfully our's, the unused green card numbers form the previous years.
One way we can make this rally very strong is, if we can get all the highly skilled immigrants to come to DC.

It is not a question of whether it affects us or not, It is clear that the NOOSE is getting tighter around legal immigrants. This is happening only because anti-immigrants are spending huge amounts of dollars and putting a lot of pressure on lawmakers. Lawmakers feel this is what their constituents want. While really it is not their constituents, but a small minority of loud-anti-immigrants creating an impression that this is what their constituents need.
Without an opposing voice, they (anti-immigrants) will continue to get encouraged by these small victories and they will pressure lawmakers to bring in more of these restrictive type of bills.
Also, if you carefully look at this bill, the money raised by the additional fees is being spent on the border. How are these two connected?. Money raised from high skiled employers should have been used to give them atleast something in return. How about making the process a little user friendly for the employers. How about using the money for implementing some badly needed reform at USCIS Adjudication. For streamlining, for reducing wait-times, for hiring additional resources.
If we are under the impression that we can be laid-back since it does not affect us, we are wrong.

Hello all,
I finally got my receipt number after 51/2 months.Who knowa how long it will take them now to approve my EAD.Anyway I am happy to see that and I wish you all luck.I just want to share with you how did USCIS find my paper work.My attorney contacted a cogressman,I contacted a senator and a town representative.They all call TSC and requested to pull out my paper file from the archives,because I file conccurently I140/I485.And of course my I485 package was there.I am so mad.Some one over looked my papers and never separated them so I never got my receipt and my case in that matter.So hopefully now they will be fast in approving my I765 and I 131.I need to go home.It has been 7.5 years.Can't wait.
