This is just fees increase similar to what USCIS is doing every 1 or 2 years. It will be additional cost for companies. Because H1b and L1 persons are highly skilled increasing 2000 will not have any impact. Not hiring H1b is big loss for a company compared to hiring H1bs with additional cost. This is just a creation of revenue. Every price is going up in US. Similar to that fraud fees also going up
How can this bill protect or create jobs for americans.. this is so dumb. If companies have to pay more for these visa's they try an outsource these jobs. In this economy companies will not try to increase costs by 1. Hiring more H1/L1 people 2. They will not pay more for these visa, they will freeze H1 hiring to reduce visa processing overhead. 3. They might rely on EAD/GC/citizens but then they will have to pay more to these people which slowly will start outsourcing jobs when the operating costs here go up... I got in touch with an Asian american association within our company. They are headquartered in NY. One of the officers of the association agreed to discuss supporting IV in thier upcoming steering committee meeting. I will let you know the outcome.
Also there is an Asian Film festival going on in NY. If the film/video intended to show the plight of immigrants comes thru, may be we can play it next year to excite more Asian crowd?

If IV/we can focus on this bill for now, hopefully we can get this passed this year. It is a tough task but if IV decides and can attempt to get this bill passed this year. (As there is no increase in Visa Numbers), It will be a great relief for everyone. We are ready to Support. Thanks for the post.

I'm an immigration analyst, and I can tell you at this time the republicans are wary of any bill- repeat any bill- that increases immigration. I know we are taking about a recapture bill, and a STEM exemption bill, but the end result is still more imigration. Precisely for that reason, Rep Bob Goodlatte, an influential Virginia republican congressman in the house republican leadership, has refused to sponsor HR 5882 and HR 6039 (he even said as much during a recent interview). He has sponsored the hard country cap removal bill with Rep LOfgren though. THis bill does not involve any visa recapture/temporary increase in immigration, but just tweaking of the parameters within the existing framework, CHC is also opposed to any visa relief for skilled workers, and this bill will enounter the least resistance from the CHC and republicans.
Even if the hard country caps are removed, EB3 IND will see dates move forward signficanly. THen, you will not be penalized from being India.
Guys what do you think. How can we push this one forward- just have 5 or so weeks in this session. IV core, ??

I want thank you for posting this question for 2 reasons. Firstly, I think your question is valid and deserves a full answer without moral judgment. Secondly, I am intrigued by the moral arguments the question has raised (and yes there is an moral and ethical dimension to this but it is not an answer to your initial query)
My wife and I are working full time as well and have often wondered if we should hire a nanny for our 3 year old. Growing up I have had several legal nannies for 15 years and unlike most people replying to this thread I was not raised in India (thus had an Indian Nanny sponsored to a foreign country). I think someone has already answered how you can get a nanny to come to the US in a prior post on this thread. I will focus on giving you another dimension to having a nanny. My parents have sponsored nannies legally from India many times (not in the US) but very often it is very hard for them to live away from India for extended periods of time. They miss their family and depression often ensues. Most of the women who are asking for your help when they are in India don't understand how hard it is to live in the US where language, family and transportation barriers make a sponsor's home almost feel like a prison. As they get more and more depressed and lonely their behavior starts to impact the very child that the sponsor is trying to accommodate.
Do consider these issues very strongly before you sponsor a nanny from India (or any other country). Having an INDIAN (ie. not visited US before and does not speak English) nanny in the US is not the same (or remotely similar) as having an INDIAN nanny in India. :)

Recently I had bad exp with last nanny, I am in confusion whether to complain somewhere or not. I am pretty sure you guys would have specific judgments and questions about that as well, and i would definitely ask for your opinions...:-)

When i visit india, i get gift for her as well...And all this is not charity, because my parents are not rich enough for charity...but it's the indian societ where people give to others from whatever small amount they have....without any notion of charity....
I wish I can build something similar here.....

dear friends,
i have been in the US 11 years and have considered and reconsidered this whole debate on a recurring basis. much time an thought has been put into it. one of the conclusions i have arrived at is that if you have lived here long enough and still maintain ties to home, you have lost the ability to be "happy AND satisfied AND peaceful" anywhere. we belong no where. not completely here and not completely there. wherever you live, there will be a perceptible sense of what you are missing. live here and miss family etc live there and miss a lifestyle you have grown to take for granted. accepting this fact of life is very useful i find, it puts matters in perspective for me. if nothing is going to be perfect then i am looking for the better deal not the ultimate one, and looking for it with the full full knowledge that i will not have everything. it won't happen.
the decision is a very individual one, but don't take it with rose colored glasses, don't think of home and recall only the best times. do remember why you left and why you still stay here. and if you still feel the pull to return, do so by all means, but do it with the knowledge of it's imperfections and flaws so you don't come running back.
i have friends who would never leave and those that have left. personally i live in a constant sense of being torn between my two worlds- and i don't advocate that to anyone!

If you have an account (NRO/ordinary) in India / other source of income for which you are already paying income tax/submitting tax statements to the Indian Govt, I dont think you should be too much worried. On the other hand if you have an NRE account and get a lot of interest income, which is not taxable in India, then you might be better off reporting that here. Anyway thats my 2 cents.

US would like you to pay tax for every pneny you make inside or outside of US. Also, when you file your taxes in US , you can take credit for the taxes you paid in india.
This form is for informing the accounts you hold. Only ones that I was told there is no need to provide are life insurance (ULIP) and PPF accounts.

My priority date is July 2003. After a long wait of 4 years, my case showed online "certified" on 07/17. My lawyer advised to prepare for all the documents for the I-140/I-485 stage.
But I am becoming very nervous after looking at a few responses here saying, it took over a month to get the hard copy by mail. Could anyone tell me the phone number for Dallas BEC to check on the status of the mail?

Has anyone else had a similar problem at this stage of the process. After 6 years I am still not through the first stage of labor cert and the patience is running low.

So are you saying that there is no need to depart and reenter the country prior to the end of the last date of your Parole in the case when you entered using the AP document (not a non-immigrant visa)? This appears grey and personally I'd rather err on the side of caution by atleast making a trip to Canada (if not to India) and reentering on the renewed AP.
AOS is your status- This allows you to stay in US as long as your application is pending/approved.
EAD is work authorization. This allows you to work in US.
If you have I-485 pending and no EAD/H1, you cannot work. However you are eligible to stay in US as long as your 485 is pending.

No I guess. I briefly watched on Lou Dobbs. 17 states are petitioning against it (Real Id). He interviewed an official from MI and was proud that they are implementing this.
